In the 12 months since Northwood opened its doors on Banchory’s busy High Street, the team has become a familiar and trusted presence in the local property scene, bringing their signature blend of professionalism, warmth and community spirit to Deeside. Northwood Owner and Director Laura Mearns reflects on the first year.
How have you and the team found Northwood’s first year in Banchory?
We have received a very warm welcome from other businesses and the local community. We love being part of the High Street! The commute for me is also shorter, so mornings are a little less rushed with my youngest before he goes to school.
What have been Northwood’s main priorities in Deeside this year?
Sharing our 16-year journey in property with the local community, introducing the team, organising networking and community events for local businesses providing a platform to support each other, delivering local property events, and most importantly providing a first-class service to our landlords, tenants, sellers and buyers.
What is the property market like in Banchory, both in terms of lettings and sales?
Demand is constant for rental properties, with a big mix of tenants moving to the area or requiring accommodation due to changing circumstances. We have regular walk-ins looking particularly for family homes. In terms of sales, there is a sustained demand for properties in all commuter and scenic towns, including Banchory, with average house prices tending to vary depending on where they are and what type of house is being sold.
What advice do you have for anyone looking to let or sell property in Deeside?
Get to know and trust your agent, as they are the team that will get it sold or let, ensure you fully understand the agents’ reach both locally and nationally and ensure all fees have been fully explained.
What kind of properties are people looking for in Banchory and wider Deeside?
It’s a real mix, with first time buyers, downsizers and everything in between. We have sold and let a variety of property styles. Well-presented properties will always attract the best interest and in most cases achieve a higher sale or rental value with the competition they attract.
Is there a particular demographic looking?
Families and retirees are always looking for both sale and rental in Deeside, whether relocating or upsizing. Deeside has so much to offer and continues to be a popular destination for a mixed range of ages.
Why should they come to Northwood?
Living locally, the team has vast local knowledge reaching local buyers and renters. We also have a strong national reach across the national portals – Rightmove, Zoopla and OnTheMarket. Our team is small with property, people and community at the heart of all that they do, a very personal service and a visible high street presence.
