The Aberdeen Kiltwalk has become a bit of a feature in the Northwood calendar and yesterday was no exception.
Despite the sore feet, blisters and aching joints, our team of five was elated when crossing the finish line after almost seven hours of walking along the Deeside Way, from Bellfield Park in the centre of Banchory to the Duthie Park in Aberdeen.
More than 5,500 people – friends, families, colleagues and charity supporters – took part in this year’s 18-mile Mighty Stride, raising funds for more than 500 charities across Scotland and the North-east.
This year, the Northwood Aberdeen Team has joined forces with the Scottish Association of Landlords (SAL), walking as part of the SALtire Squad, which aims to have members take part in all four Kiltwalks in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Raising Funds for Local Cancer Charity
We were honoured to be walking for CLAN Cancer Support, an amazing North-east charity close to our hearts which supports people of all ages impacted by a cancer diagnosis, providing emotional and physical support to cancer patients, their families, carers and friends.
So far, everyone fundraising to support CLAN has raised a remarkable £20,664! We would like to help get that to a final total of £24,000 if we can. That amount would cover costs at Clan Accommodation in Aberdeen, which is used by patients and loved ones who must travel for cancer treatment at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, for one month.
Northwood North-east Owner and Director Laura Mearns is a member of the CLAN Board.
“The Aberdeen Kiltwalk has become a real highlight in the Northwood calendar, and this year’s event reminded us once again why we keep coming back. The atmosphere along the Deeside Way was incredible, from the volunteers who kept us going, to the passers‑by who cheered, to those who handed out sweets and encouragement when we needed it most.
“We were especially proud to walk for CLAN Cancer Support, a charity that means a great deal to us. CLAN’s work is extraordinary, offering emotional and practical support to people of all ages facing a cancer diagnosis, and providing a lifeline for loved ones who need to stay close during treatment.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team for taking on the Mighty Stride as part of the SALtire Squad. Sore feet aside, crossing that finish line knowing the difference these funds will make was worth every step.
