Northwood owner and Director Laura Mearns joined fellow volunteers at Clan Cancer Support’s annual Fall Ball, which raised more than £42,000 for the charity.
The autumnal-themed ball was held at The Chester Hotel in Aberdeen, bringing together 195 guests for an evening of celebration, fundraising and support for Clan, which provides vital services to people affected by cancer across the north-east of Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.
Local charity support
As a Clan Ambassador, Laura is passionate about supporting the charity and the important work it carries out within local communities.
“For me, being able to volunteer at events like the Fall Ball is an opportunity to give something back and support a cause that makes a real difference in the community,” she said.
“It was a wonderful evening but more importantly it helped shine a light on the essential support Clan provides to individuals and families affected by cancer. With the continued support of volunteers, guests, donors and the wider community, Clan can continue its vital work across the region.”
Events such as the Fall Ball play an important role in helping Clan raise the funds needed to continue providing its services. Each year, it costs £2.7 million to keep Clan’s cancer support services running across the north-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.
This funding allows the charity to provide free emotional and physical support to local people and families impacted by cancer, helping them navigate what can be an incredibly challenging time.
Volunteers at the heart of Clan
Fiona Fernie, Clan’s CEO, said: “Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Clan. Their time, commitment and support make an incredible difference, not only to the success of our events like The Fall Ball, but also to the people and families we support every day.
“We’re so grateful for the support of organisations like Northwood, helping to make a positive impact through volunteering and giving something back to their local community.”
