Oxford, ‘the city of dreaming spires’ is famed worldwide for its beauty and for its academic prowess, however it is also one of the fastest growing and most ethnically diverse cities in the UK. As locals to the area, we at Northwood Oxford love our city so here’s a brief overview of some of the central Oxford and surrounding areas that our properties cover.
The east Oxford area is largely dominated by Edwardian and Victorian houses, this coupled with the proximity of nearby city centre, shops, nightlife, university and college buildings makes this area particularly sought after for doctors, academics, students & young professionals alike. Of particular note are the vibrant and culturally diverse home of Oxford’s summer street carnival and the location of Roger miller’s historic 4-minute mile, Cowley and Iffley Roads; comprised of predominately 1930s built properties. In addition to Oxford University, the nearby science and business parks host large local employers.
The west Oxford area of Headington is Oxford largest suburb, with mixture of Victorian, 1930s semi detached houses and modern apartments. The diverse community has the enjoyment of many local parks, it’s own high street and excellent transport links to the city centre. The nearby JR and other hospitals are a large local employer
The north Oxford area of Summertown is home to a vibrant shopping and business centre, in which its high end shops, chic restuarants, bars and cafés deliver an urbane atmosphere. At a short drive from both the city centre and JR hospitals, the area is home to many university fellows and doctors.
