Whilst there’s no legal requirement to take out insurance if you rent a property in Scotland, it can be a good idea to have an insurance to protect against accidental damage or meeting monthly payments.

Tenant Liability Insurance

As a tenant, it’s your responsibility to keep your rental home in good condition. General wear and tear is expected to a degree (and therefore wouldn’t be covered by insurance, nor would deliberate damage) but Tenant Liability Insurance can help cover the costs of fixing or replacing fixtures and fittings which otherwise may be deducted from your deposit. Most insurance companies will cover the likes of furniture, carpets, white goods and appliances.
