Tories proposed benefits caps and cuts could hit some landlords.
George Osborne said Tuesday he is set to implement £25bn of spending cuts in the next parliament if the Tories are re-elected, to reduce Britain?s ‘dangerously high national debt?.
Chancellor Osborne said that Working-age benefits will be frozen for two years by a future Conservative government, delivering more than £3bn in savings.
This follows David Cameron?s pre-conference pledge to lower the benefit cap from £26,000-a-year per family to £23,000 and bar childless 18 to 21-year-olds from claiming housing benefit if his party wins the election.
The party also has plans to strip 18 to 21-year-olds of the jobseeker’s allowance and substitute this with a six-month limited allowance. After that runs out they will have to take up an apprenticeship, job or do daily community work for their benefits.
The Tory?s hope must be that an even tougher stance on welfare will appeal to the electorate, as polls have suggested that the benefits cap has been one of the coalition’s most popular policies, but the squeeze on these benefits and in particular Housing Benefit will undoubtedly hit some landlords.
