Northwood’s awesome foursome swim the channel

August 23, 2016

On Friday 19th August, Northwood UK’s awesome foursome finally got their slot to swim the English Channel. The determined group of four set off at 12.20am on Thursday morning and arrived at Cap Gris Nez at roughly 9.40am English time. The friends can now officially boast that they have completed the swim to France!

The swim was to raise money for the Northwood Charitable Foundation that was set up in 2013 after the tragic loss the Managing Director of Northwood, Nick Cooper, to pancreatic cancer. Over the last few years, the Foundation has raised £45,000 for the charity by doing amazing cycle rides, running marathons and even climbing Mount Kilimanjaro! For this fundraising event, Greg Wood, operations manager at Northwood, along with three friends, Paul Hancock, Stuart Parris and Jason Ransley, decided to do something a little bit different!

It was certainly not for the faint-hearted, the guys had to stay awake for 36 hours with some of the team experiencing severe sea sickness. Lots of jellyfish also kept things interesting! The team definitely earned their title of channel swimmers. Conditions started out well as Paul took the first hour stint, followed by Greg, then Stuart, then Jason. The tide was big at 6.7m which resulted in a big curve in the route being taken. Still the guys managed to cross the channel in 9 hours and 27 minutes, the fastest time yet of 2016!

Paul, Greg, Stuart and Jason would all like to thank everyone for the huge amount of support they have had from everyone, as well as the patience and understanding of their friends and family! It’s not too late to show support for this fantastic cause, please check out the Just Giving page for the event to make a donation, all support really is greatly appreciated and the guys are so close to their target of £7,000!

Northwood UK take great pride in its charitable foundation which donates time and raises funds for charities close to our hearts up and down the country. So we are incredibly honoured and excited to have been shortlisted for the “Best Team or Company Fundraising” award at this year’s Agents Giving Fundraisers of the Year Awards Charity Ball to be held on the 30th September.
