The start of the New Year is always a busy time for buying and selling property. Whilst it can be difficult to present your house to its best advantage when the weather is cold, light levels are low and your garden is far from flourishing, we have pulled together some top tips for you that will make a successful winter sale far more likely.
Be ready for the January rush – once the chaos of Christmas has receded, buyers will be out in force. That means as a seller you need the house to be ready for viewings as early as possible in the New Year.
First impressions count – the first thing that a potential buyer will see is the front of your house so make sure that it’s looking as good as possible. Investing in a couple of winter flowering baskets could be a really wise investment.
Have a good clear out – de-cluttering your house will not only help prepare you for the move but it gives a greater sense of space and storage for potential buyers. Do all those small DIY jobs you haven’t got around to, such as changing that light bulb and fixing that leaky tap. Despite the fact that you no longer notice it, potential buyers will, and the details do count.
Keep the house warm – it’s obvious but crucial – make sure that your home is well-heated whenever viewings are taking place. Don’t forget to allow plenty of time for the house to warm up.
Keep the lights on – during the winter months when there is little sunlight to brighten things up it’s important that you make sure that all your lightbulbs are working and you may want to consider strategically leaving a number on throughout the house during viewings. Highlighting outside lights and security lights will appeal to safety-conscious buyers, so make a feature of them if you have them.
