Our intrepid team comprising Gemma Goodson, CEO; Nick Harris, Operations Director South; Stephen Summerhayes, Local Director Norwich; Stuart Calvert, Local Director Southampton and Jack Honeyfield, Administrator Bristol are taking on the challenge of their lives for an immense cause for which the Northwood Charitable Foundation was created.
They are aiming to climb 19,341 ft to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro starting on 26th September in order to raise money for The Pancreatic Research Fund in memory of our Managing Director, Nick Cooper who died last year from this cruel disease at the age of 50. Our target is to achieve a total exceeding £20k, which is in itself a ‘mountain to climb’, but we have started well.
Each year around 8,800 people in the UK are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It’s the fifth most common cause of cancer death, causing five percent of all cancer deaths each year. Astonishingly, forty years ago few children survived leukemia; the survival rate is now 80%. In the last forty years the survival rate for breast cancer has increased from 46% to 80%.
Forty years ago, the survival rate for pancreatic cancer was just 3%. Today it is STILL just 3%. We want to help change this.
Please support our fundraising through Just Giving – just a few pounds will make a difference and help us reach our goal
