Dunfermline was the capital of Scotland for almost 500 years and is steeped in Scottish history. The beautiful Dunfermline Abbey is the final resting place of King Robert The Bruce and these words can be seen round the four sides of the great tower. The Royal Palace was connected to the Abbey and this is where the first known document concerning the “Auld Alliance” between Scotland France was signed on 23rd October 1295. Today, visitors and shoppers in the town can walk a few hundred yards into this into this stunning part of history, with the Abbey, museums and historic ruins to visit, as well as the wonderful Pittencrieff Park, which was donated to the people of Dunfermline by its most famous son, Andrew Carnegie.
Dunfermline and the surrounding area is also undergoing a transformation, with the ongoing Eastern expansion bringing a range of modern properties, from all major house builders. These properties will be required to facilitate the growing population of this part of Fife, including the number of commuters from Edinburgh, attracted to Dunfermline by the affordable, quality homes and lifestyle. The new Forth road crossing, upgraded rail links and two major park and ride facilities are an indication of this continued growth.
