8 ways to freshen your house up for spring

February 2, 2017

The days are finally beginning to get longer again and spring will be here before we know it.  If one of your resolutions for this year was to get organised and freshen up the house for spring, then you’ll love our  top tips:

Simply Paint…

One of the quickest and cheapest ways to give a room a significant face-lift, is with a simple coat of paint. Whether that is just the skirting boards, an accent wall or the whole room, paint is a great way to give a room a new lease of life!

New from old…

Before you throw out that table or little set of drawers that no longer fits in with your décor, consider re-purposing instead!  Sanding down wooden furniture and repainting in a neutral colour can change the look completely. Some sturdy pieces may even be suitable for the garden with the right treatment.

Prepare for summer…

Whilst the spring bulbs might not have popped up yet, if you get the opportunity between showers to clear the windswept winter leaves from around the property or other small outdoor jobs it can lift the spirits no end when you look out the window or rush in or out of the house. Now is also a great time to start getting the garden tidied and ready for the warmer weather. A small area of decking can be put down in no time and is great for BBQs or just relaxing outside with a good book. A little work done now, then when the weather does warm up, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy!

Spare room sort out…

It can be too tempting to use the spare room as a bit of a ‘dumping ground’ for laundry, toys and anything else that needs a temporary home, but how much more useful would it be as a home office, playroom or games room?

Clutter clear-out…

We all have one those drawers or cupboards where we put stuff that just might come in handy, ‘one day’, But that day hardly every comes and we end up with either a drawer so full that we can’t open or close properly, or a cupboard where everything falls out if you move one thing! Time for a proper clear out, if you haven’t used it in the last six months, you probably never will!

Re-arrange the furniture…

Sounds really simple, and it is! Just by moving around the furniture you already have, you can give a room an entirely different look and create a fresh new space. Try moving smaller pieces to different rooms to create new looks.

Accessorise…

Never under-estimate the effectiveness of a few well placed accessories! Some new cushions, a rug or some new photo frames can really lift the look of a room. They are great ways of introducing a splash of colour.

Accents of colour…

You needn’t re-do a whole room to give it a fresh new look. Picking just one wall and painting it an accent colour will do just as well. Or if you have plain painted walls already, an accent wall of wallpaper is really eye-catching and effective.

Don’t forget though, if you are in a rented property, you must check with your landlord before painting, wallpapering or doing any major work in the garden such as adding decking.
